Mathematics teachers from Tîrgu Mureș have approached the talented scholars from the 90s. To this, they established the Vályi Gyula Mathematical Association in 1994. The name of the association is given by the greatest scientist born in the town of Tirgu Mures, who developed the mathematical foundations for the description of the propellers.

The main purpose of the Association is to train talented scholars in mathematics and to popularize the life and scientific work of the scientist Vályi Gyula.

The activities of the Association are well known and recognized in Romania and Hungary at the national level.

In over 20 years of activity, members of the Association have conducted over 5000 hours of training in the Vályi Gyula math club as well as in math camps. In addition, the Association organized annually the Vályi Gyula Mathematics Memorial Contest, which was attended by pupils from the Transylvanian counties as well as from Hungary.

For 10 years, between 1994 and 2004 the Association functioned as a mathematical branch of the Hungarian Technical Scientific Society of Transylvania.
